Visiting the Zugspitze from the Tyrolean side

The Tiroler Zugspitzbahn in Ehrwald takes you up to almost 3,000 metres and thus to the highest point in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena. The ride by cable car only takes about ten minutes. Too bad actually – because during these ten minutes, you’ll hardly be able to get enough of the breathtaking scenic views of the Zugspitze’s surrounding mountains. By the way: The scenic-view cable cars have a transport capacity of up to 100 people.

Highest holiday happiness

The Zugspitze summit

On a clear day, you’ll be able to admire a mountain panorama of summits in four different countries up at the Zugspitze’s summit. With a bit of luck, you’ll see a total of 400 peaks from the scenic-view platform. Among them are the Großglockner and Piz Bernina, and you might even catch a glimpse of Munich’s Olympic Tower. The views you’ll enjoy up on the Zugspitze are extraordinary – everyone who’s ever been there can vouch for that.

Tip for true summiteers: The Zugspitze’s summit cross can be reached from the scenic-view platform by way of a via ferrata. However, it’s not to be underestimated – it definitely requires surefootedness and adequate equipment.

At Fascination Zugspitze Experiential World, visitors can learn more about the mountain. Adventure and knowledge are combined in an interactive way – which allows hobby historians to immerse themselves in the Zugspitze’s fascinating past. Another good reason for visiting the Experiential World: the incomparable feeling of standing on a glass floor high above the mountain massif.

All the diverse adventures in fresh mountain air and the stunning scenic views are bound to make you hungry and thirsty. Good thing that the Panorama Peak Restaurant has got you covered in this regard – it lets you end an exciting and eventful day on the Zugspitze with a one-of-a-kind culinary experience.

Cuisine & Events at the summit of the Zugspitze

Various culinary events make the Zugspitze an even more worthwhile excursion destination. How about an extraordinary start to your day during a sunrise cable car ride? And up at the peak restaurant, guests enjoy both a scrumptious breakfast and beautiful scenic views. If you’re more of a night owl rather than an early bird, you might want to opt for the “Zugspitze by Night” experience or a relaxed fondue evening surrounded by a beautiful mountain setting.

The highlight for all fans of Lederhosen and Dirndl and those interested in the region’s traditions? World’s highest “Wies’n” – the Zugspitze Oktoberfest at almost 3,000 metres above sea level.

Tiroler Zugspitzbahn

The Tiroler Zugspitzbahn has received a special distinction – it’s among Austria’s Best Summer Mountain Railways: A seal of quality that’s awarded by the Association of Mountain Railways of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, and it stands for exceptional offers and services.

Speaking of exceptional offers: You’d like to go skiing or snowboarding on the tallest mountain of the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena? Right below its summit, winter sports enthusiasts can hit the slopes of a small but beautiful resort: the Zugspitzplatt.
